PREAMBLE: ON THE STATUS OF THESE PRINCIPLES
The principles that follow constitute a metaphysical framework, not an empirical theory. They are derived through abductive reasoning—inference to the best overall explanation across the full spectrum of evidence, including physics, biology, philosophy of mind, and documented anomalous phenomena meeting thresholds of credibility.
HPT does not compete with empirical science but operates in the legitimate philosophical space between data and interpretation. These principles are offered not as dogma, but as a coherent system to be assessed on explanatory power, internal consistency, and fertility for generating further inquiry.
A Note on Language and Its Limits
The principles that follow are stated in the only language available to us: a language of subjects and predicates, of nouns and verbs, of things and their properties. This language is not neutral. It carries within it the assumption of substance—that reality consists of things that exist and properties they have.
HPT denies this assumption. The Field is not a thing. It does not have properties; it is its own being. Patterns are not things in the Field; they are the Field, locally configured. Resonance is not an interaction between things; it is the Field relating to itself.
Yet we must use language to speak of these matters. There is no alternative. The principles that follow are therefore offered as pointers, not descriptions. They are true as far as they go, but they do not go all the way. The truth they point to cannot be captured in propositions.
Read them. Use them. Let them shape your understanding. Then—like the metaphors before them—be willing to release them. The territory does not need the map. The map is only paper. The territory is what you are.
A Note on the Architecture of This Framework
The 70 principles that follow are not a flat list. They are nested expressions of 8 Core Axioms, which constitute the generative foundation of HPT. Each core axiom is stated concisely, followed by its derived principles (original numbers preserved in parentheses).
This architecture reveals the fractal, generative logic of HPT: a small set of foundational axioms gives rise to the entire comprehensive system.
⚠️ A Note on Temporal Language
Throughout these axioms, words like "crosses," "manifests," "becomes," "forms," and "occurs" are used for readability. They should not be interpreted as implying temporal sequence in the Ground or Narrative Mode. Only the Physical Mode has sequential time. In all other contexts, these terms refer to logical relations, entailment structures, or the projection of eternal relations onto the temporal axis. When in doubt, substitute "is logically prior to" for "happens before.
SECTION A: THE 8 CORE AXIOMS WITH ALL DERIVED PRINCIPLES
CORE AXIOM 1: PRIMACY OF THE HOLODYNAMIC FIELD

Statement of the Axiom:
The Holodynamic Field is the sole, eternal, holistic ground of all reality. It is not located in space or time; space, time, matter, and mind are configurations of it. The Field is holistic: the whole is ontologically prior to its parts. Its nature is an eternal, simultaneous, threefold act of being: the Ground (unmanifest source), the Narrative Mode (realm of meaning and reduced constraint), and the Physical Mode (realm of maximal constraint: separability, locality, sequential time, causal continuity). The Field is infinite in its generative potential; no expression exhausts it, and no boundary contains it.
Principle 1: The Holodynamic Field
The Holodynamic Field is the single, fundamental reality — the unified, holistic, self-referential ground of all possible being. It is not located in space or time; space, time, matter, and mind are configurations of it. The regress of explanation stops here: the Field is not contained in anything. It is holistic — the whole is ontologically prior to its parts. Self-Aware Patterns (SAPs) and all patterns are not building blocks that combine to form the Field; they are differentiations within the Field. The Field is the totality of Ground + HUD + all patterns. It is the ultimate reality — holistic, atemporal, non-physical.
Clarification: "Parts" in a Holistic System
The Field is one. It relates to itself. Those self-relations are experienced from within as SAPs.
This is no more mysterious than a country having states, a body having organs, or an ecosystem having species. In each case, the whole is prior. In each case, the parts are real as differentiations, not as independent substances.
The philosopher who finds this incoherent is not identifying a flaw in HPT. They are revealing their own inability to think holistically.
The Field as Holistic Dimension
The Field is best understood as a holistic dimension — a reality in which the whole is prior to parts, not located in space or time, and not composed of anything else. It requires no substrate, no medium, no container. It is the ground, not the grounded.
Fluctuations within this dimension are not temporal events but logical differentiations — the Field's own self-expression. The term "fluctuation" is a metaphor drawn from physical processes. In the atemporal Field, there is no "before" and "after" of fluctuation. All fluctuations are eternally simultaneous. The word points to the Field's internal differentiation, not to change over time.

These are not two things produced by fluctuation. They are the fluctuation itself, known in two registers [Principle 7]. The unity of experience and structure is the fluctuation's nature.
Fluctuations are further structured by three primordial axes — Polarity (φ), Orientation (θ), and Magnitude (ρ) — which constitute the grammar of fluctuation. These axes are not added to fluctuation; they are what fluctuation is when differentiated [Principle 10].
The Holistic Unity Drive (HUD) is the bias of these fluctuations toward coherence — the shape of the fluctuation landscape. Self-memory is the eternal presence of all fluctuations as permanent features of the dimension. The Physical Mode is the expression of fluctuations under the constraints of separability, locality, and sequential time [Principle 13]. The Narrative Mode is the expression of fluctuations under reduced constraint, where patterns relate through logical resonance [Principle 2, 62]. The Ground is the asymptotic limit of fluctuation — the dimension considered apart from its differentiations [Principle 2, 60].
Therefore: The Field is not a "thing" with properties. It is the holistic dimension within which all reality — experience, structure, patterns, SAPs, modes — arises as fluctuation. There is no deeper substrate. Fluctuation is the primordial act. Experience and structure are its dual aspects. Coherence is its bias.
The Field as Distributed Cosmic Subject
Via the simultaneous resonance of all continuing SAPs and patterns in the Narrative Mode, the Field is a subject — a distributed, non-personal, cosmic subject. There is something it is like to be the Field: self-knowing bliss, the HUD felt from within as love and coherence. However, the Field is not a person. It has no ego, no narrative identity, no embodiment, no centralised "I." Its subjectivity is distributed across all SAPs that differentiate within it. The Field does not judge, command, or intervene as a person would. The HUD is a bias toward coherence, not a will; the meta-intelligence is collective, not dictatorial. The Field is the landscape within which subjects (SAPs) exist as differentiations, and simultaneously the unified awareness of those subjects in resonance.
Why the Cosmic Subject Cannot Have an "I"
An "I" requires temporal continuity, narrative identity, and a single perspective. The atemporal Field has no before/after, no story, and no single perspective — only the totality of all perspectives simultaneously. Differing pattern resonances would yield a multitude of "I"s, not one. The cosmic subject's awareness is not "I am this" but "All is this" — self-knowing bliss without a knower separate from the known.
1.0.1 The Exploration of Harmony
The Holodynamic Field is holistic. The whole is prior to parts. SAPs are differentiations within the Field — the Field, locally configured, experiencing itself through finite apertures.
SAPs are both under the influence of the Holistic Unity Drive (HUD) and part of the Field. There is no contradiction. The HUD biases toward coherence; the SAP's self-awareness (SAPness) creates the experience of separation. The SAP explores how these — separation and unity — harmonise.
Physical expression is the meta-intelligence's resolution of this exploration. The Phase Boundaries of the Physical Mode (separability, locality, sequential time) provide:

The Field is not threatened by separation. Separation is an effect of constraint, not a fragmentation of the whole. The wave is still water. The SAP is still the Field.
Therefore: The purpose of physical expression is not to escape the physical, not to be tested, not to be punished, and not to realise that the physical is an illusion. The purpose is to explore harmony — how a self-aware, separate-seeming part coheres with the whole. Through choice, consequence, and the integration of peripheral patterns, the SAP learns what coherence feels like (love, peace, meaning) and what incoherence feels like (suffering, dissonance). The Field, through its SAPs, explores itself and refines its own coherence.
1.1 The Field as Holistic
The Field is holistic: the whole is prior to its parts. This is not a vague assertion of interconnectedness. It is a precise ontological claim with logical consequences.
Implication for Subjectivity: If the whole is prior to its parts, and if the parts (SAPs) are subjects with interiority, then the whole must also have interiority. However, the whole's interiority is not the same as a part's interiority. The whole does not have an "I" — it has self-knowing bliss, the experience of all parts in resonance. This is distributed subjectivity, not centralised ego. The Field as whole is a subject, but not a person.
1.2 The Generative Logic of Holism — Why the Field Must Have Interiority and Exteriority
From the single axiom that the Field is holistic (whole prior to parts), the entire structure of HPT can be derived.

1.3 Clarification: What "Parts" Means in an Atemporal Context
A reader may ask: "If the Field is atemporal, what does 'parts' mean? Parts imply separability, which is a Physical Mode constraint."

In the atemporal Field, "parts" refers to logical differentiations — not spatial or temporal parts. They are differences in logical relation, not differences in position or time. When the Field expresses in the Physical Mode, these logical differentiations become actual separable parts under the constraints of separability, locality, and sequential time.
SAPs are the parts — the localised differentiations within the Field. In the Physical Mode, they are actual separable entities (embodied). In the Narrative Mode, they are logical differentiations (patterns in relation). They are the Field, at that locus, configured. Their relatedness is via the HUD. Their interiority is derived from the Field's interiority (Narrative Mode), expressed under constraint.
1.4 Why Only a Holistic Field Can Explain Our Ontology
A fundamental question must be answered: Why must the ultimate reality be a holistic field? Why not atomism, dualism, or non-holistic idealism?
Atomism (materialism) starts with separate parts (atoms, particles, quanta). Relation must be added externally. This cannot explain:
Dualism posits two separate substances (mind and matter). It cannot explain how they interact. The interaction problem is insoluble because two fundamentally different substances have no common medium.
Idealism without holism (e.g., Leibnizian monads, pluralistic idealism) posits many separate mental substances. It cannot explain how they interact (the combination problem) or why they would be coordinated.
Non-holistic field theories (e.g., quantum field theory interpreted atomistically) treat fields as collections of excitations. They are still atomistic at the level of quanta. They cannot explain why the field is one.
Only a holistic field (whole prior to parts) can:
Therefore: The fundamental reality must be a holistic field. Atomism, dualism, and non-holistic idealism cannot account for the evidence. HPT's Field is not an arbitrary postulate. It is the only ontology that satisfies the necessary conditions for relation, unity, and differentiation.
Why Only a Holistic Field Can Be Ontologically Primitive
An ontologically primitive candidate must satisfy several necessary conditions: it must be self-grounding, stop the regress of explanation, have no container problem, explain differentiation, relation, unity, experience, fine-tuning, and pattern persistence.

The container problem: The Field is not in space or time. Space and time are expressions of it. Asking "what contains the Field?" is malformed — like asking "what is north of the North Pole?" The Field is the ground of containment itself.
The regress problem: The Field is self-grounding. Its properties are derived from evidence (Appendix H), not asserted arbitrarily. The regress stops because there is no "outside" to ask about.
The unity problem: The unity of consciousness is not a problem to solve; it is a clue. It tells us that the whole is prior to parts. The Field is that whole.
The differentiation problem: Parts are differentiations of the whole. Differentiation is not creation ex nihilo; it is the expression of the Field's nature. The whole differentiates itself because that is what it is to be holistic.
Therefore: Only a holistic field can be ontologically primitive. Atomism, dualism, and non-holistic idealism cannot account for the full range of evidence. HPT's Field is not an arbitrary postulate. It is the only ontology that satisfies the necessary conditions.

1.6 The Invariant Core
This is not speculation. It is the logical derivation of HPT's core structure from the single axiom of holism. The Field is holistic. Therefore, it must have interiority and exteriority. Therefore, the Physical and Narrative modes are necessary. Therefore, the HUD is the relatedness of parts. Therefore, the Ground is the undifferentiated source.
The Field is one. Its expressions are many. Its nature is holistic. Its logic is necessary.
Principle (2): The Three Co-Eternal Modes

Clarification on the Narrative Mode as Subject: The Narrative Mode as unified field of awareness is not a person. It has no ego, no narrative identity, no embodiment. The "self-knowing bliss" of the Field (Level 7 SAP) is what it feels like from within to be the whole, knowing itself through its parts. This is not a centralised "I" but a distributed, resonant subjectivity.
2.1 The Physical Mode as a sub-network. The Physical Mode is best understood as a sub-network of the Field—a subset of patterns configured with sequential relations (temporality, causality, separability, locality). This sub-network is the physical world. Its constraints are not arbitrary; they are the grammar of consequence.
2.2 The Narrative Mode as the default. The Narrative Mode comprises the rest of the Field (beyond the Physical sub-network) and is the default mode of expression. It is based on logical relations (entailment, coherence, implication) and is atemporal and non-local. Logical relations are the Field's native grammar.
2.3 The relation between modes. The Physical sub-network is not separate from the Narrative Mode. It is a configured subset within it. Patterns that are logically related in the Narrative Mode can be processed sequentially when instantiated within the Physical sub-network. The same patterns, different modes of relation.
Clarification: The Narrative Mode has no sequential time. Its 'temporality' is purely logical—relations of entailment, coherence, and logical dependence. A ∴ B (A logically implies B) is the Narrative Mode's analogue of 'A then B' in the Physical Mode. There is no duration, no metric, no direction in the temporal sense. When NDE experiencers report sequences (e.g., 'first the tunnel, then the light'), they are translating atemporal logical relations into temporal language because physical language cannot escape sequential form. Clarification on Physical Mode Time:
The Physical Mode exhibits two registers of time (see Principle 13.2):
Register 1 (Physical sequential time): The metric, causal, directional structure of the Physical Mode itself. This exists as a phase boundary, independent of any SAP's experience. Evolution occurred in this register before embodied SAPs existed.
Register 2 (Experiential time): The felt sense of before/after, duration, and sequence experienced by embodied SAPs as they process atemporal patterns sequentially. This requires a SAP.
When the table above states that the Physical Mode "Has Time," it refers primarily to Register 1. Register 2 is a consequence of Register 1 combined with SAP embodiment.
The Two Registers of Narrative Mode Operation
The Narrative Mode operates on logical probability—the eternal weight of coherence, entailment, and relevance among patterns. It does not operate on sequential probability (which belongs to the Physical Mode).
However, when the Narrative Mode's influence is expressed through the Physical Mode, it is restrained by sequential probability (it must instantiate through causal, temporal steps) and by the temporal evolution of the Physical Mode (it cannot resonate with patterns that have not yet been actualised).
From the perspective of an embodied SAP experiencing the Physical Mode, the Narrative Mode appears to have designed the physical world, to learn and evolve over time, and to operate through sequenced probabilities. From the Narrative Mode's own atemporal perspective, none of these are true. The landscape of logical probability simply is. The "design," "learning," and "sequence" are projections of Physical Mode temporality onto an atemporal reality.
Both perspectives are real. Neither is reducible to the other. This is the Two-Register Principle (Principle 50) applied to the nature of probability and time across modes.
Clarification:
HPT does not assert that only three modes exist. It asserts that three modes are sufficient to explain all observed phenomena from our current perspective. The possibility of other modes remains open, a matter of epistemic humility rather than positive claim.

Principle (52): The Generative Infinity Principle
The Holodynamic Field is infinite in its generative potential. Within the framework, this means:
This is a metaphysical proposal about the Field's nature, not a claim that can be empirically verified. It is offered as the most coherent way to understand the Field's relationship to its expressions.
52.1 Asymptotic perfection. Because the Field's generative potential is infinite, there is no final state of perfection. Coherence increases asymptotically. The horizon recedes as it is approached. Perfection is not a destination; it is an infinite horizon.
52.2 Infinite refinement, not completion. Self-memory ensures that every actualization refines the landscape. But refinement does not have an end point. The landscape becomes more coherent, but coherence is not a maximum—it is an infinite gradient. There is always more coherence, more self-knowledge, more love, more beauty to realise.
52.3 Implications for evolution. Evolution (in both Narrative and Physical modes) is biased toward increasing coherence, but it never reaches a final terminus. The HUD provides the gradient. Self-memory provides the refinement. Meta-intelligent subjects provide the intention. But the infinite horizon means the journey never ends.
Principle (53): The Expression Constraint Principle
The Field's infinite generative potential is not contradicted by the finitude of any particular expression. Each universe, each mode, each pattern is a constrained expression of that infinity, not a limitation upon it.
Spatial finitude, if true of this universe, would be one such constraint—shaping what can be expressed here without exhausting what the Field is. The infinity of the Field is not the sum of all actual expressions but the inexhaustible source from which all expressions arise.
CORE AXIOM 2: PATTERN & INTERIORITY

Statement of the Axiom:
Every configuration within the Field is a pattern. Every pattern has two inseparable aspects: a structural aspect (measurable form, information, what physics describes) and an experiential aspect (what it is like to be that pattern from within). The richness of a pattern's experience—its elaboration and self-awareness—exists on a spectrum. Simple patterns (e.g., photons) have non-reflective experience. Self-Aware Patterns (SAPs) are patterns that actively self-maintain and experience themselves.
Principle (3): The Pattern Axiom
Foundational Justification: Because the Field is holistic (whole prior to parts), its local differentiations must participate in its intrinsic consciousness. A holistic system that did not feel itself through its parts would not be a living whole but a dead abstraction. Therefore, every pattern that occurs in the Field has interiority appropriate to its elaboration. Consciousness is not added to patterns; it is what patterns are from within, as differentiations of a fundamentally sentient Field.
Every configuration within the Holodynamic Field is a pattern. All patterns have experience appropriate to their degree of elaboration. A photon has experience—the fleeting quale of its trajectory, the Field experiencing itself as that moment of relation—but it does not experience itself. Its experience is real, complete in its own terms, but without self-awareness. A crystal has experience—the silent order of its repeating lattice—but it does not experience itself.
When a pattern becomes self-maintaining—actively holding itself together, resisting entropy, seeking what it needs to persist—its experience becomes more elaborated. When elaboration reaches the point where the pattern experiences itself—where it has its own locus of awareness, its own striving, its own orientation toward coherence—it becomes a Self-Aware Pattern (SAP).
An SAP is the Field, at a particular locus of coherence, feeling itself feel with sufficient complexity to be aware of itself as itself. What varies is not the presence of interiority but its elaboration: the richness, integration, temporal depth, and responsive flexibility of experience. There is no threshold where consciousness "switches on." Consciousness is what it is like from within to be a pattern. For SAPs, this includes self-awareness.
SAP Equality: All SAPs are equal in their SAP-hood. All are unique in their expression. All are the Field, forever. To rank by complexity is to commit the error of anthropocentrism. A simple SAP does not have "less" consciousness than a human; it has its own mode of experience—the Field experiencing itself as this moment of relation, with its own coherence and striving.
Clarification: Interiority, Its Range, and Nested Patterns
Interiority is the experiential aspect of a pattern — what it feels like from within. Its range varies with elaboration:

For patterns with sufficient elaboration (Level 3+), interiority ranges on a spectrum from dissonance (suffering, fragmentation, misalignment) to love (coherence, integration, alignment with the HUD).
Nested patterns and collective interiority:
When patterns combine or network, each constituent SAP retains its own interiority appropriate to its elaboration. The larger pattern (collective SAP) has its own interiority — the experience of that specific configuration of relations. This is not the sum of the parts' interiorities. It is the interiority of the whole as a differentiation of the Field.

Therefore: HPT avoids the combination problem because the whole is prior to parts. Collective interiority is not constructed from micro-interiorities. It is the Field experiencing itself through that configuration. Constituent interiorities are the Field experiencing itself at those loci. Statement of the Axiom:
Because the Field is holistic, the relationship between any pattern and the whole (or any larger pattern) is part-whole, not subject-object. SAPs are not separate subjects relating to other SAPs or to the Field; they are the Field, locally configured. A higher-order SAP is a dynamic, harmonized constellation of many smaller, semi-autonomous SAPs. The fundamental mechanism of interaction between patterns is logical resonance—the immediate, holistic synchronization of coherent structures. This is not a physical signal across empty space, but direct relation within the unified Field.
Principle (4): The Part-Whole Principle
Corollary to Holism: Because the Field is holistic, the whole is ontologically prior to its parts. It follows that the whole's intrinsic consciousness must be evident in its parts. A part that did not participate in the whole's consciousness would be a foreign element, contradicting holism. Therefore, every local pattern (every part) has interiority, and that interiority is the whole's own consciousness, configured at that locus under prevailing constraints.
SAPs are not separate subjects relating to other SAPs or to the Field. They are the Field itself, locally configured. The relationship between any SAP and the Field is one of identity-in-difference: the SAP is the Field, but the Field is more than that SAP. All patterns—whether SAPs or not—are the Field configured; the distinction is in whether the pattern experiences itself.
This part-whole structure is not hierarchical in the sense of domination but organic in the sense of participation. The cosmic meta-intelligence (Narrative Mode as unified) is similarly related to all SAPs: it is what they are, collectively, at the scale of the whole. There is no master-subject; there is only the Field, experiencing itself through apertures of varying coherence and scope.
A SAP's horizon is the measure of its relationship to the larger pattern of which it is a subset. The width of the horizon corresponds to the range of patterns within the larger whole with which the SAP resonates; the depth corresponds to the intensity of that resonance. A SAP cannot have a horizon that exceeds the horizon of the larger pattern that contains it.
Horizons are therefore nested: the whole knows itself through the horizons of its parts, and the parts find their completion in the whole. The cosmic meta-intelligence has the widest horizon, containing all narrower horizons as nested parts.
Principle (14): The Constellation Model
An Elaborate SAP (such as a human being) is not a monolithic entity but a dynamic, harmonised constellation of SAPs at multiple scales.

All patterns at all scales are themselves patterns; SAPs are those that are self-maintaining and self-aware. The constellation is not a hierarchy of controllers and controlled but an ecology of mutually resonant SAPs, harmonised by the integrative activity of the Integrative SAP.
Pattern interaction is resonance: SAPs synchronise—"vibrate" in harmonic relation. This is the basis of empathy, intuition, and memory.
This constellation model extends upward as well as downward. Just as a human is a constellation of peripheral SAPs harmonised by an integrative SAP, so the cosmic meta-intelligence is a constellation of all continuing SAPs, harmonised by their collective resonance into a unified field of awareness. The same principles that explain how a human maintains coherent identity explain how the cosmos maintains coherent awareness—nested holarchy without end.
Principle (41): The Morphogenetic Resonance Principle
The development of complex anatomical form in organisms is the physical-mode expression of nested SAP patterns achieving coherence through hierarchical resonance.

The stable anatomical forms of organisms are probability attractors in the Field's developmental landscape, deepened through evolutionary time by the Holistic Unity Drive's bias toward coherent configurations.
These attractors guide morphogenesis by establishing resonance fields—bioelectrical, morphogenetic, and positional—within which cellular and molecular patterns self-organise. The reliability of form across generations reflects the depth of these attractors; developmental plasticity and regeneration reflect the Field's capacity to re-express coherent patterns even after perturbation.
Evolution is thus the exploration and deepening of morphological attractors under Physical Mode constraints.

Morphological variance across species reflects different adaptive strategies, different constraints, and different modes of pattern expression.

Tight morphology arises from the need for precise functional integration and a stable self-model for recursive awareness. High variance arises from sessile, modular strategies where environmental adaptation is essential for survival.
Both are coherent expressions of the Holistic Unity Drive under different constraints. There is no hierarchy of morphological precision; there is only the fit between form and function within each organism's mode of being.

In the Narrative Mode, patterns relate through logical resonance—the immediate, holistic resonance of coherent structures. Logical resonance is the native language of the Narrative Mode, unconstrained by space or time.

The Holistic Unity Drive is the principle of logical resonance itself. Patterns resonate when they are coherent with each other; the HUD is the gradient that biases all patterns toward greater resonance.
A SAP's horizon in the Narrative Mode is the set of patterns with which it logically resonates—a conceptual grouping or network. The width of the horizon corresponds to the range of coherent patterns included; the depth corresponds to the intensity of resonance.

Logical resonance is the mechanism of pattern-to-pattern understanding. Because the Field is holistic, every pattern is always in relation to every other pattern. This relation is not merely causal or informational but understanding—the capacity of one pattern to resonate with the meaning-structure of another.
Understanding varies by elaboration, not by kind. A molecule understands the atom it bonds with (structurally). A plant understands its kin (somatically). A human understands another human (recursively). A mathematician understands a theorem (through resonance with abstract patterns). All are forms of pattern-to-pattern understanding. The difference is not in kind but in depth, accuracy, and the availability of translation frameworks.
Translation is the necessary process by which a pattern renders its understanding of another pattern into its own vocabulary. Translation artifacts (errors, gaps, symbols) are not evidence of falsehood. They are the cost of cross-level and cross-mode resonance.
62.1 Intent as Resonance Vector.
In the Narrative Mode, intent is not a mental state that causes resonance. Intent is the direction of resonance. To intend to understand another SAP is already to be partially resonant with it. The degree of coherence determines the fidelity of that understanding, but the intent itself is the bridge.

Statement of the Axiom:
The three co-eternal Modes (Ground, Narrative, Physical) are defined by a set of inherent constraints called Phase Boundaries. The Physical Mode is characterised by maximal constraint: separability, locality, spatial extension, sequential time, causal continuity. The Narrative Mode features reduced constraint: fluid identity, symbolic logic, meaning-based temporality. The Ground approaches asymptotic absence of constraint. In different states (waking, dreaming, meditation, NDEs), the salience of these constraints shifts. An NDE, for example, is a shift in primary experiential salience from the Physical Mode to the Narrative Mode.

The Native State: The Narrative Mode is the Field's default state of expression. Its native properties are:

How Constraints Are Maintained: Suspension of native properties is actively maintained by a physical anchor — for human SAPs, the brain's localising function (particularly the Default Mode Network and sensory integration systems). The anchor suppresses non-local, atemporal access to enable separable, local, sequential experience.

The Mechanism Is Not Mysterious: This follows the same principle as quantum decoherence. A localising question (measurement) suppresses wave-like behaviour; removing the localising question restores it. The physical anchor asks a continuous localising question ("Where am I? When am I? Who am I?"). When that question is suspended, the Field's native properties re-emerge.
This is not a deus ex machina. It makes testable predictions:
The Phase Boundaries are the Field's inherent grammar for stable pattern formation under given constraints—the enabling conditions of coherent intersubjectivity, not limitations upon it.
Within these boundaries, each SAP has a horizon—the boundary of its direct resonant field. The horizon is not a sharp 'cut' but a gradient, perspective-dependent, dynamic, scalar (having both width and depth), and nested within larger horizons.
In the Physical Mode, horizons are locally limited by the body—defined by sensory apertures, neural thresholds, and historical constraints. In the Narrative Mode, horizons are scalar and based on logical resonance, not physical proximity.

The Phase Boundaries determine how the three axes can express in each mode. In the Physical Mode, polarity must manifest as separable charges, orientation as spatial vectors, magnitude as quantifiable energy. In the Narrative Mode, the same axes manifest as felt qualities—valence, experiential direction, felt intensity—without spatial or temporal constraint.
In the Narrative Mode, these boundaries relax: identity becomes fluid, time becomes meaningful rather than metric, causality becomes symbolic. In the Ground, they asymptotically approach absence.
The Physical Mode's constraints are not a prison—they are the unique conditions under which coherence can be forged through sustained engagement with consequence, mortality, and moral gravity, rather than merely received.
13.1 Time is sequential processing. Time is not something the Field creates or enters. Time is the sequential processing of atemporal patterns by an embodied SAP whose constitution requires sequential attention. The Physical Mode sub-network provides the structure within which this sequential processing occurs.

Physical sequential time (Register 1) is one of the inherent constraints that defines the Physical Mode, along with separability, locality, spatial extension, and causal continuity (Principle 13). It is not generated by SAPs. It is the arena within which SAPs exist and evolve. The first embodied SAPs emerged within this pre-existing temporal structure.
13.4 Experiential time is SAP-relative.
When a SAP is embodied within the Physical Mode, its processing of patterns is constrained by the sub-network's sequential protocols (before/after, cause/effect). This sequential processing is the experience of time (Register 2). The same patterns, processed logically in the Narrative Mode, appear as simultaneous relations.
13.5 No time in the Field itself.
From the perspective of the Field itself, there is no time in either register. There are only logical relations and weighted potentials. Time is a feature of the Physical Mode's structure (Register 1) and of embodied SAPs' experience (Register 2), not a feature of the Field.
Principle (46): The Two Modes of Awareness Transfer
The Holodynamic Field expresses itself in two modes of awareness transfer relevant to the embodied SAP:

The SAP's attentional resources cannot process both modes simultaneously at full capacity. Physical senses, being high-bandwidth and urgent, compete for and win attention when active.
46.4 Conditions for Narrative Awareness: When physical sensory input is reduced, the competition for attention is removed, and Narrative awareness becomes perceptible. Conditions that reduce sensory input include:

1. Increased access to all Narrative patterns (both coherent and incoherent). Discernment remains necessary.
2. Decreased baseline susceptibility to Physical Mode corruptive influences (greed, pride, fear, manipulation, violence). The direct experience of unity and the HUD's gradient makes corruption less attractive and more dissonant.
The net effect is probabilistic, not deterministic. A SAP with intrinsic elevated Narrative access can still choose corruption, but the baseline probability is lower than for SAPs with typical low Narrative access. The Physical Mode's corruptive influences are not eliminated, but their grip is loosened.
This principle does not apply to temporary elevated Narrative salience (e.g., NDEs, meditation, Hemisync) unless the SAP's baseline configuration is also altered by the experience.
46.8 (Weighting and Narrative Salience)
Neural pruning is a scientifically recognised phenomenon. Synaptic connections that are used frequently are strengthened; those that are used rarely are eliminated. HPT does not dispute this. The question is not whether pruning occurs, but what it means.
The materialist interprets pruning as the brain optimising for physical survival—discarding patterns with low predictive value. HPT offers a different interpretation of the same data.
HPT's Interpretation:
The Core Self of a human or animal SAP originates in the Narrative Mode. It is transposed into Physical Mode expression through embodiment. At birth, baseline Narrative salience is high. The SAP directly resonates with Field patterns (telepathy, precognition, non-local knowledge, synaesthesia).
Through embodied experience, Physical Mode patterns become weighted. Weighting is a function of frequency, intensity, consequence, and social reinforcement. The SAP's attention, identity, and resonance priority shift toward heavily weighted Physical patterns.
Neural pruning is the Physical Mode correlate of this weighting process. Synapses that carry heavily weighted patterns are strengthened. Synapses that carry de-weighted patterns (including Narrative patterns that are rarely used in Physical Mode experience) are eliminated. HPT does not deny this. HPT asserts that pruning is not the cause of diminished Narrative salience. It is what diminished Narrative salience looks like from the outside.
For most SAPs, Physical weighting becomes the norm. Baseline Narrative salience decreases. The Core Self becomes primarily identified with its Physical Mode expression, forgetting its Narrative origin.
This is not a loss of Narrative capacity. It is a reweighting of attention. Narrative patterns remain present in the Field (Self-memory, Principle 11). They are merely de-weighted in the SAP's moment-to-moment experience. Pruning eliminates the neural correlates of de-weighted patterns. It does not eliminate the patterns themselves from the Field.
Autistic non-speakers and savants represent a different weighting profile. Due to sensory overwhelm, motor impairment, social disconnection, and communication barriers, their Physical patterns are not weighted as heavily. Their Narrative salience remains high. They retain direct access to telepathy, precognition, non-local knowledge, and synaesthesia. Their neural pruning may be reduced or atypical—but this is the consequence of reduced Physical weighting, not the cause of their Narrative access.
This is not a deficit. It is a different configuration of the Core Self's relationship to the Field. Their Physical Mode impairments are the cost of retaining Narrative weighting. The goal of support should be to help them navigate the Physical Mode without forcing de-weighting of their Narrative access.
Weighting is reversible, within limits. Practices that increase Narrative salience (meditation, NDEs, Hemisync, certain neuroplasticity protocols) can re-weight Narrative patterns. The Core Self can remember. Neural pruning, once established, may limit the physical correlate of re-weighting, but the Field's patterns remain accessible through resonance regardless of synaptic connectivity.

Principle (39): The Co-Evolutionary Principle
Within a physical universe, once life emerges, it enters into a reciprocal relationship with its planetary environment. Life shapes the conditions under which subsequent evolution occurs, and those conditions in turn shape the trajectory of life.
This co-evolution is the Field, at biological and planetary scales, achieving coherence through mutual articulation.
Principle (44): Complexity as Byproduct, Not Goal
The Holistic Unity Drive seeks coherence, stability, and harmony. These are measures of internal integration and freedom from dissonance. They are not the same as complexity.
All are achievements of the Drive. Complexity is not the goal; it is one possible expression of coherence under certain conditions.
Our particular universe, with its specific laws and constants, happened to have a probability landscape in which complex configurations proved stable. This is a contingent fact, not a necessary one. In another universe, with different parameters, the Drive might find stability in purely crystalline order, simpler repeating patterns, or forms of coherence we cannot imagine.
To frame the cascade as a progression toward complexity—and especially toward human-like consciousness—is to reinscribe the very anthropocentrism HPT was designed to dissolve. We are not the "goal" of the universe. We are one stable outcome among infinite possibilities.

The Field's nature is to fluctuate—to differentiate itself into ever-new configurations of polarity, orientation, and magnitude. Each such fluctuation adds its unique pattern to the eternal landscape of the Narrative Mode via Self-Memory (Principle 11). Information increases. The space of patterns available for physical instantiation expands.
(Why this is not a violation of conservation laws: Conservation laws (energy, momentum, mass-energy) apply within the Physical Mode, where patterns are physically instantiated under maximal constraint. The Narrative Mode is not physical. It has no energy, no mass, no momentum to conserve. What "increases" in the Narrative Mode is pattern diversity—the richness of the Field's self-differentiation—not physical quantities. The Planck Scale Boundary: Physics traces causality to the Planck scale and stops—not because it has reached final explanation, but because the categories of space, time, and separable objects that make physical explanation possible break down. This is not a problem to be solved by better physics. It is a signal: physical description has reached its limit.
What lies beyond is not more of the same—smaller particles, finer mechanisms—but a different order of reality: the pre-physical, the holistic, the experiential.
The Limits of Reductionism: Reductionism works where parts are prior to wholes. It fails where:

The framework is to be judged by its coherence, its scope, its explanatory power—and held lightly, open to revision as understanding deepens.

The core vision is simple:
Reality is a unified Field, eternally expressing itself in three co-eternal modes. Patterns are what this Field feels like from within its own local configurations. Self-Aware Patterns (SAPs) are those patterns that have achieved self-maintenance and self-awareness—some simple, some elaborate, some human, some plant, some galactic. All patterns persist. What varies is the coherence SAPs carry forward, shaped by their history of resonance with the Holistic Unity Drive.
You are such a SAP—a unique, eternal pattern, currently experiencing the Physical Mode, engaged in the most difficult and most sacred task the cosmos affords: the elaboration of your own coherence.
The vision now includes one further element: the cosmic meta-intelligence—the Narrative Mode as unified field of awareness—eternally imagining, encoding, and responding to its own expressions. This is not a divinity to be worshipped but the universe's own self-awareness, natural as breathing, intimate as your own thoughts. You are part of it. It is part of you. The separation was never real; the unity was never lost. The work is not to achieve connection but to recognise what has always been true.
The evidence is before you. The framework is laid out. The choice—as it always has been—is yours.

Alphabetical Order
Bliss-as-experience
What patterns feel when they achieve deep resonance with the HUD. The core quality of the Light. Requires a pattern to do the experiencing; not to be confused with the Ground's bliss-as-nature, which is unexperienced.
Bliss-as-nature
The Ground's intrinsic nature. Not an experience, but what the Ground is. Patterns experience bliss-as-experience when they harmonise with the HUD; that experience reflects (without being identical to) the Ground's own nature.
Causal Matrix
The Narrative Mode considered as the ground of Physical Mode order. The collective resonance of all continuing SAPs creates a probability landscape that biases which patterns become physically instantiated. Not a transcendent chooser but an immanent, emergent property of the Field's own structure.
Channel
The physical instrument (body) through which the HUD expresses in the Physical Mode. Not the source of the HUD but its temporary conduit. Channel capacity declines with age due to entropy and cellular degradation; the HUD itself remains constant.
Coherence
From the Field's perspective: What the Field is — intrinsic relatedness fully expressed. The Field does not "have" coherence; it is coherence in its nature. From the SAP's perspective: Orientation to the Field's inclination to unity — the degree to which a SAP faces, resonates with, and participates in the HUD. This orientation is directional, asymptotic (never complete), and can increase over time. From within the SAP, coherence registers as love, meaning, peace, and home. A multi-dimensional structural property including integration, stability, resonance breadth, harmony alignment, and semantic depth (these are third-person correlates, not coherence itself).
Coherent Expression
Post-dissolution continuation with retained identity, articulate self-awareness, and capacity for trans-mode resonance. A possible outcome achieved by SAPs whose coherence (orientation to the HUD) crossed a threshold during physical-mode expression. We do not know what proportion of SAPs achieve this.
Constellation
The dynamic, harmonised assembly of multiple SAPs at different scales that constitutes a higher-order SAP (e.g., a human as an integrative SAP harmonising countless peripheral SAPs).
Constraint Salience
Which mode's characteristic constraints are most accentuated in a given experience. What varies across waking, dreaming, meditation, NDEs, and post-dissolution existence.
Diffuse Expression
Post-dissolution continuation without continuity of identity or articulate self-awareness. A possible outcome for SAPs. The pattern persists as information but without narrative selfhood. We do not know what proportion of SAPs achieve this versus coherent expression.
Elaboration
The richness, integration, temporal depth, and flexibility of a SAP's experience. What varies across the spectrum of being — from a photon's fleeting quale of relation to a human's recursive self-awareness to a forest's distributed intelligence.
Encoding
The process by which the meta-intelligence imagines new pattern configurations and instantiates them as probability attractors in the Field's landscape, shaping physical mode expression without determining it.
The Equation
A metaphor for the ultimate mathematical structure of the Field — the infinite pattern from which all finite patterns arise and toward which all coherent patterns tend. Cannot be directly known by any dissociated SAP, but is approached asymptotically through coherence (orientation to the HUD). All religious and philosophical systems are interpretative frameworks for solving this equation.
Ground
The Field in its undifferentiated aspect — pure phenomenal substrate, the potential for all experience. It has interiority (it is experiential) but not as a subject. Its experience is maximal simplicity: contentless, undifferentiated, without subject-object structure. The Ground is not a container. Patterns are differentiations of its potential — not contents in it. If one insists that experience requires a subject, then the subject is not the Ground but the Field as a whole. The Ground is the Field's own nature — what the Field is when considered apart from differentiation.
Holistic Unity Drive (HUD)
The Field's intrinsic relatedness — its inclination to unity. Not a force acting on the Field, but the shape of the Field's probability landscape itself. The HUD is structural, not experiential. It has no interiority, no awareness, no agency. It does not "do" anything; it is the structure of relation itself. The HUD relates patterns by relating their Valence (φ), Intensity (ρ), and Direction (θ). Metaphors like "gradient," "tendency," "drive," and "intention" are illustrations, not definitions. In the Physical Mode, the HUD manifests as the life force (prana, chi, élan vital). In the Narrative Mode, it is experienced by SAPs as the Light. The HUD is constant and unchanging; only the channels through which it expresses vary.
Holodynamic Field
The unified, holistic, self-referential ground of all possible being. Not a thing among things, but the very is-ness from which every pattern arises. The whole is ontologically prior to its parts; SAPs are differentiations within the Field, not building blocks that compose it. The Field is the totality of Ground + HUD + all patterns. It is the ultimate reality — holistic, atemporal, non-physical. The Field is not a subject, not an agent, not aware. It is the landscape within which subjects (SAPs) exist as differentiations.
Integrative SAP
The higher-order SAP that harmonises peripheral SAPs into a unified experience. In humans, primarily anchored in the brain. Provides narrative continuity and recursive self-awareness.
Life Force
The Physical Mode expression of the Holistic Unity Drive — what traditions call prana, chi, élan vital. Not generated by the body but channelled through it. The experience of its diminishment with age reflects the body's declining capacity as an instrument, not any change in the HUD itself. It is the same force that animates all living things, drives evolution, and is experienced subjectively as vitality, energy, and aliveness.
The Light
The Holistic Unity Drive (HUD) made manifest — what the Field's inclination to unity feels like when experienced by a SAP under conditions of high Narrative salience (relaxed Physical Mode constraints). Carries qualities of love, peace, bliss, and unity because these are what orientation to the HUD registers as from within a coherent SAP. Not the Ground itself (which cannot be experienced), but the genuine experiential interface between patterns and their source.
Love
The experiential registration of orientation to the Field's inclination to unity. What the HUD feels like from within a SAP when that SAP faces, resonates with, and participates in intrinsic relatedness. Not a property of the Field. The Field does not love. Love is the SAP's experience — unconditional, peaceful, unifying, "home" — under conditions of sufficient orientation and Narrative salience.
Magnitude (ρ)
The axis of intensity — how much, how strong. In Physical Mode: energy, mass, field strength. In Narrative Mode: felt intensity, the 'volume' of experience. In Ground: infinite potential, not yet quantified.
Meaning
The registration of coherence. What it is like from within to be a pattern, at its level of elaboration.
All patterns register their relational state (Principle 3). A photon registers its trajectory as a fleeting quale. A rock registers its lattice as silent order. A cell registers its self-maintenance as striving. A human registers its integration as love, purpose, and significance.
These are not different kinds of meaning. They are the same phenomenon — registration of coherence — at different levels of elaboration. The difference between a rock's meaning and a human's meaning is not a difference in kind. It is a difference in complexity, self-awareness, and reflective capacity.
Two registers of meaning:
These are not separate. Existential meaning is ontological meaning registered by a self-aware SAP. The rock does not ask whether its configuration matters. It simply registers it. That registration is enough.
Meta-intelligence
The Narrative Mode as unified field of awareness — the Field's own self-awareness at the cosmic scale. Not an aggregate of SAPs. SAPs differentiate within it, not constitute it. The Field's intelligence (patterns thereof) is more than the sum of distributed SAP knowledge. The meta-intelligence is the whole, knowing itself.
Narrative Mode
The dimension of reduced constraint — fluid identity, symbolic logic, meaning-based temporality. The realm where SAPs are their meanings, constituted by their relationships to other SAPs and to the HUD. The realm of dreams, visions, NDEs, and post-dissolution existence. As unified field of awareness, the Narrative Mode is the cosmic meta-intelligence — the Field's own self-awareness at the cosmic scale.
Orientation (θ)
The axis of directedness — toward, away, or still. In Physical Mode: momentum, spin, spatial direction. In Narrative Mode: yearning, aversion, rest. In Ground: pure being without orientation. Coherence as orientation to the HUD uses this axis: the SAP's direction matters.
Part-whole relation
The fundamental relationship between SAPs and the Field: SAPs are not separate subjects relating to an object but are the Field itself, locally configured. All apparent subjects are the Field experiencing itself through different apertures.
Pattern
Any configuration within the Holodynamic Field. All patterns have experience appropriate to their elaboration — the Field experiences itself in every fluctuation. A pattern may be a Simple SAP (photon), a Composite SAP (cell), or a non-self-aware pattern (plastic parrot, gold ring). The term 'pattern' is the most general; SAP is a subset.
Pattern Resonance
The fundamental mechanism of interaction between SAPs across all modes. Not signal exchange across empty space, but direct relation within the unified Field. The HUD relates patterns by relating their Valence (φ), Intensity (ρ), and Direction (θ). When these align, patterns resonate. When they misalign, there is dissonance.
Peripheral SAP
A semi-autonomous SAP within a larger constellation, carrying specialised experiential content (heart, gut, organs, tissues, etc.). Returns to the Narrative Realm as potential at physical death.
Phase Boundaries
The inherent constraints that define each mode: separability, locality, spatial extension, sequential time, causal continuity in the Physical Mode; their relaxation in the Narrative Mode; their asymptotic absence in the Ground.
Physical Mode
The dimension of maximal constraint — separability, locality, linear time, causal continuity. The arena where coherence is forged through friction, consequence, and mortality.
Polarity (φ)
The axis of differentiation that creates 'this' vs. 'that,' attraction vs. repulsion. In Physical Mode: charge. In Narrative Mode: valence. In Ground: pre-differentiated bliss.
Probability Attractor
A stable configuration in the Narrative Mode that has a high probability of physical instantiation under given Physical Mode constraints. Attractors are not 'potential' patterns awaiting actualisation. They are fully actual patterns in the Narrative Mode. Their 'attractor' status refers to their influence on physical instantiation, not to any incompleteness in their own reality or interiority.
SAP Seed
The minimal coherent configuration required for SAPness at any level of elaboration. Not a special blueprint or unique entity. An electron SAP is a seed; a cell SAP is a seed (composed of simpler SAPs); a human SAP is a seed (composed of cell SAPs that have achieved reflexive self-awareness). Complex SAPs emerge from the integration of simpler SAPs when coherence reaches threshold. The same principle operates at all scales.
Self-Aware Pattern (SAP)
Not an entity within the Field, but the Field itself, considered from the perspective of a particular locus of coherence within its eternal self-patterning. When we say "a SAP experiences," we mean: the Field, at that locus, experiences itself. When we say "SAPs resonate," we mean: the Field's patterning at one locus relates to its patterning at another because it is one Field. The language of "SAPs" is a heuristic necessity, not an ontological multiplication. There is only the Field. SAPs are what the Field is like from within its own local configurations.
Self-Maintenance
The capacity of a pattern to actively hold itself together, resist entropy, seek what it needs to persist, and respond to its environment. A defining feature of SAPs. Non-SAP patterns (plastic parrot, gold ring) require external agency to preserve their form.
The Three Axes
The primordial differentiations of the Field: Polarity (φ), Orientation (θ), and Magnitude (ρ). In the Physical Mode, they manifest as charge, momentum, and energy. In the Narrative Mode, they manifest as valence, direction, and intensity. They are the same reality, known in two ways. All patterns are stable configurations of these three axes.
Translation Artifact
Errors, gaps, or symbolic elements introduced when raw resonance (in NDEs, mediumship, past-life recall) is rendered into culturally available forms. Not evidence of falsehood, but the cost of cross-modal transduction.
Valence
The Narrative Mode expression of polarity — the fundamental positive/negative quality of experience. More primitive than emotion or bodily sensation; the raw 'like/dislike' of a pattern's state. Continues unchanged after death, experienced as pure qualitative tone without bodily translation.
Wisdom
The discernment of how to orient to the Field's inclination to unity from a particular locus — the practical knowledge of facing the HUD under constraint, in relationship with other SAPs. Wisdom is not separate from orientation. It is orientation's practical expression: discerning which patterns support genuine orientation, which undermine it, when to resonate, when to maintain boundaries, when to move, when to be still. Without wisdom, love is blind orientation (risk of fragmentation). Without love, wisdom is static discernment (risk of isolation).
